ABOUT YOU

Do you pay Swiss import VAT and customs charges when ordering from ABOUT YOU?

Verdict
No Swiss delivery

The German site aboutyou.de delivers only to addresses in Germany, so a Swiss shopper cannot order from it directly and no Swiss import bill arises from it. Switzerland is served by the sister shop aboutyou.ch, which quotes CHF prices including VAT and ships with Swiss Post for CHF 4.90, free from CHF 39.90.

Medium

The delivery-country restriction is stated in About You's own current help pages. The practical Swiss outcome rests on the separate aboutyou.ch storefront, whose pages state VAT-inclusive CHF pricing without ever saying explicitly that customs clearance is covered, so that part is an inference from an omission.

The reasoning

About You states this plainly in its own help pages. The answer to "Which countries do you deliver to?" on the .de domain says orders placed via aboutyou.de can only be delivered within Germany, and the same question on the .ch domain says orders there can only be delivered within Switzerland. The Swiss storefront lists prices in Swiss francs, with the footer noting that all prices include VAT. It names Swiss Post as the shipping partner and states shipping and service fees of CHF 4.90, with free delivery from CHF 39.90. Nothing on either site mentions import duty, import VAT or a customs clearance charge falling on the buyer.

What complicates it is that the question is about aboutyou.de specifically, and that shop simply is not available to a Swiss delivery address, so there is no shop statement about Swiss import handling to read. Shoppers who insist on the German assortment use a forwarding service such as MeinEinkauf, which imports the parcel in its own name for a fee, and that route is a different commercial arrangement from About You's. About You also runs a marketplace and an outlet domain where the fulfilment party can differ.

If it goes wrong

Using a German address or a parcel forwarder for an aboutyou.de order: the import is then made in the buyer's or forwarder's name, and import VAT plus a clearance fee apply.
