Do you pay Swiss import VAT and customs charges when ordering from Thalia?
Thalia's terms put import taxes and fees on the buyer, so the parcel is cleared on arrival in Switzerland. On a CHF 400 book order expect about CHF 10 import VAT at 2.6% plus roughly CHF 13 to the carrier.
The verdict rests on a general terms clause rather than a Switzerland-specific page. Thalia's own shipping FAQ lists delivery countries without Switzerland while the Weltbild page includes it, and no buyer report of a Swiss delivery was found to settle it.
Thalia's terms state in clause 3.7 that import charges and taxes on goods entering countries outside Germany are borne by the customer. The Weltbild transition FAQ lists Switzerland among the delivery countries, and the account help page confirms Swiss billing addresses are accepted. The shipping page groups non-EU European destinations at EUR 14.00 regardless of order value. Nowhere does Thalia say it charges Swiss VAT at checkout or clears customs itself.
A book-only order under about CHF 193 falls under the reduced 2.6% rate, where import VAT stays below CHF 5 and nothing is collected.
